The journey begins

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step

We have arrived!

All things considered, today we had a fairly uneventful travel day to Forest City, Iowa. A leisurely drive to Savannah Airport. A quick hop to Atlanta. And a comfortable flight to Minneapolis. Outside of the 50 degree temperature difference from home, the weather at our destination was quite pleasant. Parkas are working as advertised.

Our RV dealer provided us with a car and driver and Darryl was prompt, polite and a pleasant conversationalist. He safely delivered us from Minneapolis to Forest CIty on a two hour journey. Straight. Flat. Lots of windmills. And farms. I think the farmers are making their money on windmills.

And then. There it was. In the distance. Like a mirage. A shiny beacon of glass and steel arose out of the sea of RVs. The Lichtsinn RV Dealer. Located just 1 mile from the Winnebago plant.

Adam our salesman gave us a quick tour of the shop and then provided us with a sneak peek at our rig that was safely stored indoors in the service center. Just a peek.

Because tomorrow’s the big day. Orientation in the morning. Closing by midday. Exploring all the nooks and crannies in the afternoon. And it will all be done indoors. Because it will be cold (single digit wind chills). And snowing (did I mention that Winter Storm Ivy is fast approaching?).

Let’s put all that to the side for the moment, because at this point, after a long day of travel and anticipation, we were simply seeking food and shelter. Fortunately, the Cobblestone Inn and Suites was just around the corner. New, clean and comfortable. Check-in was a breeze. Not a lot of clients this time of year.

Since Shooterz (with a Z) is closed on Mondays, and the A&W across the street is only open for drive-thru, we settled on the convenience (and attractive shell) of Taco Jerry’s Boderline Pizza. Who knew that was a thing?

Dinner was fine. I decided to splurge and get a cherry coke. It was the first one I’ve had in decades. And now I remember why. Yikes, that was sweet! Tomorrow, we’re hoping that we can find a place with an adult beverage. Close to the Cobblestone Inn. Since we’ll be in the middle of Winter Storm Ivy.
